Mad Scientists!

Team 8 have been learning about reversible and irreversible change.

Here is a snapshot of some of the experiments we did in class this Term.

Mrs Turner made us a frozen hand-man. He was pretty cool. We learned that the heat from our hands was causing the frozen water inside him to melt. This was a reversible change because we can keep changing water into any of it's states (Liquid, Solid and Gas) by heating it or cooling it.

Then we made gloop (just for fun) this was REALLY hard to determine if it was a solid or liquid... It would fall through your hands like liquid but when you pressed it with your finger it felt like a solid!

We also had a go at turning Chocolate into a liquid. I guess we could have changed this back into a solid, but it was WAY more fun to eat it!!!! he he

Throughout the Term we have also made a rocket canister, tested Jelly AND exploded some glad bags. Science is sooooo much fun! Why don't you try some experiences over the holidays and leave us a comment about how it went.

Diwali Festivities with Team 8 and Room 11

THE DROP!

So you really want to know if our eggimals survived 'the drop' huh?

Did our safe case...

100 DAYS!!!!

Team 8 have been counting all the days that we have been in school...and guess what we made it to 100 today!

So to celebrate 100 days of learning and 100 days of being smarter we thought it would be great to have a party. 

Team 8 were so lucky. 

We got to participate, collaborate, make, build, eat and colour in lots of exciting activities based around 100.

 Here is a little clip to show all the fun we had.

Mrs Grant has trialled a new way to add a video.. Fingers crossed it works. If it doesn't then she will try again tomorrow. 

MATARIKI DANCE

We have been learning about the Matariki Stars and how Maori celebrate Matariki.
Matariki is the celebration of the Maori New Year. People celebrate by eating Maori Kai (food)

They also celebrate with dance.

Team 8 made up Maori actions to a Matariki song.

The song was about the seven Matariki stars. Very creative Team 8.

Zoe was so creative and clever at home. She worked with her mum to put together this amazing Matariki piece of art.  Here she is talking about her Art piece.

Life Education

We have had such an exciting week at school this week. 

We got to visit Harold the Giraffe as part of Life Education.  Pamela (Harolds helper) talked to us about what makes a good friend.  Team 8 are experts at this and helped Harold to be a good friend.

The Caravan is a pretty cool place to be. The lights make you change colour and we learnt lots about being kind, caring, sharing and helpful friends.

The Amazing Buddhist Temple

What an amazing place to visit. 

 The Buddhist Temple is an amazing, peaceful and colourful Temple..oh and as Alex said...it smells so nice!

Team 8 and the rest of Year 1 and 2 had a great trip there on Tuesday with the help of our amazing parent helpers.  

We made wishes, we made wonderful lotus flowers, we ate cookies, learnt lots about giving and don't for get the '3Gs.'

This of course fits perfectly into our Manaakitanga of "Kindness."

We are firefighters drama

Today Team 8 pretended there was a fire at our school. 

We did some role play/drama to show this happening.

Two people were the school, ringing for the fire service and two people were the Fire fighters. 

Here are Theo, Cameron, Synthia and Michelle showing their great acting. ( I think the camera person needs a bit of training...It was me!)

Algebraic Patterns

Hey Mummy's and Nana's,
Did you like your special prezzie this afternoon?

For Math today, Team 8 explored different patterns. We learned about the special word "REPEAT" and made the wonderful ladies in our lives a lovely necklace with a repeating pattern.

Tadpoles in Residence

Guess what... we have some new class pets. 

Mrs Turner went shopping in the weekend and found some tadpoles for Team 8 to look after. 

We can't wait to see how they change over the next weeks.

The Things we Love!

Today Team 8 started to think about their passions and what was special to them. It was fun watching the children take such pride in their work and having some insight into what excites them. 

The process:

After having a chat about all the things we love to do, we set about drawing our passions with crayon. Some of us were so speedy that we had a go at using dye to make our pictures 'pop'.
