Scooter Safety

Today, Team 8 learned how to scooter safely with Andy. We learned that there are 2 very important things we need to wear when we are riding a scooter.

1. A helmet (that fits)
2. Shoes

You know your helmet is put on correctly when you remember the rule 2, 4, 1.

2 - you have to have only a 2 finger space between your eyebrows and the start of your helmet
4 - there should be 4 straps around your ears
1 - only 1 finger should fit between your chin and the strap of your helmet

Parents - there were some Team 8 members who were still to grow into their helmets (and some who had already grown out), perhaps you could let Santa know?

Here is a video of us learning about an emergency stop.

Team 8, were very good listeners and we learned so much.

Team 8, here is a challenge....
Tell you parents some of the things you learned today and get them to post a comment. You might even like to show them on your scooter your new skills and tricks.

Ambury Farm Fun!

What a great day we had at Ambury Farm on Tuesday.

We saw so many animals and learnt so much about each of the animals that.

At the moment we are making fact pages in our class to share all the amazing pieces of information that we learnt. Did you see them in our Publishing Books?
Best trip ever!

Here are the photos to show you all the exciting things that we did there.

Clean Teeth

On Thursday morning, Mrs Turner found a whole box of toothbrushes in the cupboard. She thought long and hard about what to do with them, and then came up with the brilliant plan of teaching Team 8 how to brush their teeth properly!
Did you know that adults should be helping us to brush until we are 8 or 9 years old? and that it should take about 2minutes to do it properly?

We watched this video to get us warmed up:

And then it was our turn to give our new toothbrushes a go...

Parents, if you want some tips, you can watch this video from Colgate ;-)

Shake-Out

Here is a photo of Team 8 children participating in the New Zealand Shakeout - a national earthquake drill.  We practised two safety strategies - one to curl up like a turtle with our hands protecting our heads for if we are outside and there is no immediate cover. Secondly, to find a close by table to drop, cover and hold.  Our children did a fantastic job. It might also be a good opportunity to talk at home with your children what they should do at home in the unfortunate event of a fire or earthquake.

Here is a short video with Taika Waititi explaining the 'shake-out'.

Fractions

For the last few weeks of Term 3, Team 8 were learning about fractions.
We learned that fractions are part of a whole. We also learned that all parts MUST be equal.

Here is a video of some of the fantastic learning we did. Check out all the awesome mathematical language our kids are using! Super duper proud!!!

Can you find/make any fractions at home Team 8? - Post what you find/do in the comments!

THE DROP!

So you really want to know if our eggimals survived 'the drop' huh?

Did our safe case...

  • Fit our eggimal inside it?
  • Allow our eggimal to get in and out easily?
  • Stop our eggimal from breaking when it was dropped?
  • Suit the character of our eggimal?

Well, here is the S.L.O.W. motion video of how it all panned out!

Do you think our eggimal safe cases met the brief?

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped us from the planning, revising, refining, creating stages to the 'big drop'. We really couldn't have done it without you! xx
